The original Birkenstock footbed is the heart of all our models. While today it is synonymous with exceptional comfort, the word ‘Footbed’ was first used by Birkenstock in the 1930s to describe the anatomically shaped inner soles with special support elements.
Deep Heel Cup
The heel cup provide support in sandals that is close to that of a closed shoe, a deep heel cup holds the heel bone firmly in place supporting a natural position.
The arch runs along the sides of the footbed, as well as running through the middle to stabilize foot structure and create a naturally straight and solid position. This gives more stability in each step.
Allowing the toes to remain loose, the toe bar in Birkenstock footbeds spreads the toes into a natural position and promotes the natural motions of the toes.
